The short version
We do not collect, upload, store, or transmit your images. All compression happens locally in your browser. We have no servers that process your files. We have no database. We have no way to see what you compress.
How ShrinkTo handles your images
When you use ShrinkTo, your image is loaded into your browser's memory using the standard HTML5 File API. The browser's built-in Canvas API performs the compression. The compressed result is held in browser memory until you click download — or until you close the page, in which case it is discarded.
At no point is your image transmitted to any server controlled by us or any third party. You can verify this yourself: open your browser's developer tools (F12), go to the Network tab, and watch while compressing. You will see zero outbound requests carrying image data.
What we do collect (and don't)
We don't collect:
- Your images, in any form
- Your name, email, or contact information
- Account or login data (we have no accounts)
- Payment information (the service is free)
We may collect (in aggregate, anonymized form):
- Standard web server logs from our hosting provider (IP address, browser type, page visited) for security and basic traffic analysis. These are not linked to image processing.
- Privacy-respecting analytics may be added in the future to understand which features are used. If we add this, it will be a privacy-first analytics service that does not use cookies or fingerprinting.
Third-party services
To deliver the website, we use these third-party services:
- Netlify for static site hosting (handles HTTP requests, may log IP addresses per their privacy policy)
- Google Fonts to deliver the DM Sans font and Material Symbols icons (your browser fetches these directly from Google's servers)
None of these third parties receive your images, since your images are never sent over the network.
Cookies
ShrinkTo does not set any cookies. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or analytics cookies.
Children's privacy
ShrinkTo does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, regardless of age. The service can be used by children to compress images for school applications, and since we collect no data, no special protection mechanisms are needed.
Changes to this policy
If we change this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be highlighted. Because we collect no data, most policy changes will only narrow what we collect, not broaden it.
